Females produce 5 to 10 inch leathery brown pods with round flattened black seeds the size of a jawbreaker but a 1,000 times harder. The seeds can be roasted and ground into a coffee substitute, but raw seeds and the pods can be toxic. The wood is useful in cabinetry and wood working. A large tree that needs space. Grows 60 to 75 feet high, 40 to 50 feet wide. Zones 4 to 8. What you see is what you will receive. All trees are second year growth and between 6 inches to 2 feet tall.
