Eastern RedbudCercis Canadensis This listing is for the flowering tree, Eastern Redbud. We have multiple sizes to choose from, small 3 to 6 inches, medium 10 to 14 inches, and Large 15 to 20 inches. The small is from this years growth. The mediums are two years old and the Large is 3 years of age. We ship this tree with some soil and water crystals for hydration, which means that they will be ready for immediate transplanting upon arrival. Plant overview: The eastern redbud is a spring shower. Up here in New York State we know when spring has finally arrived when the Redbuds start to bloom. They flower before they push their heart-shaped leaves in early Spring. The flower color is a vibrant purple, which leaves the onlooker in awe at its beauty. Growth: They grow from multiple stems. They do not have a main leading trunk as they become established. This is a feature that makes this plant a show stopper. They grow in a fashion that cascades in a lovely crown and sings the praises of being beautiful. The growth rate is between 2 to 3 feet a year once established. They handle trimming very well and will need to be deadwooded from time to time. Overall, they are a very low maintenance plant. Plant and walk away. Seeds:They produce a bean-like pod which contains 5 to 10 small brown seeds. They can be collected in the fall after they have matured. Soil pH level guide: Acid to Neutral to Alkaline. Acidic soil has a pH of 1 to 6.5. Neutral soil has a pH of 6.6 to 7.3. Alkaline soil has a pH of 7.4 to 14. If you do not know your garden’s pH level please go out an buy a cheap soil pH testing kit which can be found in any hardware store, typically under $5.00.
